Minor Alex D. appeals from the order declaring him a ward of the juvenile court pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code section[1] 602. Alex contends the court failed to make a section 241.1 determination as to whether he should be a ward of the court or a dependent of the court, failed to make proper findings regarding his educational needs, and failed to exercise its discretion in setting his maximum confinement time. We affirm.


FACTUAL AND PROCEDURAL SYNOPSIS


An amended petition filed pursuant to section 602 alleged in count 1 that Alex came within that section by committing murder and personally and intentionally discharging a shotgun, causing great bodily injury and death. Count 2 alleged Alex committed involuntary manslaughter, with personal use of a shotgun. Alex admitted the involuntary manslaughter and associated firearm use allegations. The other allegations were dismissed.


The juvenile court declared Alex a ward of the court and ordered Alex committed to the California Youth Authority (â€
