In defendant Juan P.'s third appearance before the juvenile court, he admitted vehicle theft (Veh. Code, § 10851, subd. (a)), reckless evading (Veh. Code, § 2800.2), and violation of probation (Welf. & Inst. Code, § 777, subd. (a)(2))[1]. The court committed Juan to the Kern Crossroads Facility, and after a contested hearing, ordered that he pay victim restitution of $12,438.80. Juan appeals contending there is an inadequate factual basis for the restitution amount ordered. We disagree and will affirm.
FACTS
On May 11, 2005, Ramje Tolentino flagged down patrolling officers in a Save-Mart parking lot and reported that his car had just been stolen. The officers broadcast a description of the stolen vehicle and other officers saw the vehicle enter an on-ramp onto Highway 99. When they attempted to stop the car, it sped away. A short while later, the car hit a dirt embankment and rolled over onto its roof. Juan was identified as the driver of the car.
At the hearing to determine the amount of restitution due, the owner of the car testified that she had purchased the 2004 Honda Civic on November 11, 2003, and financed about $17,000 to pay for it. After the collision, she did not get the car back. She went to a wrecking yard or tow company parking lot to retrieve her possessions from the car. The car was â€
