I. Introduction



Defendant, Joel F. Nathaniel, appeals from an April 20, 2005 order awarding interest on the unpaid portion of an equalization payment he was required to pay to his former spouse plaintiff, Ruth E. Nathaniel, pursuant to a July 8, 2004 dissolution judgment.[1] Joel also appeals from an order denying his reconsideration motion. We modify the order awarding interest but affirm the orders under review in all other respects.


II. Background



The dissolution judgment awarded Joel a number of real and personal property community assets. In turn, Joel was ordered to make an equalization payment to Ruth in two installments totaling $1.5 million, the first of which was due no later than July 8, 2004 in the amount of $700,000 and the balance to be paid within 120 days after the initial payment. The dissolution judgment provides: â€
