In late March 2004, David Seacrest learned that his vacation cabin on Golden Isle (a small island in the San Joaquin River delta) may have been burglarized. He went to inspect the property about a week later and noticed someone had kicked in the door to his storage shed. Several power tools were missing from inside the shed, as were a Rubbermaid toolbox and a generator. An outboard motor and a 12-foot-long flat-bottom boat had been taken from a deck outside the cabin.
