Steven Laven appeals the judgment of conviction entered upon his no contest plea to a charge of possession of a short barreled shotgun (Pen. Code, § 12020, subd. (a)(1)). He contends the trial court erred in denying his motion to suppress evidence of the gun under Penal Code section 1538.5 because the search warrant was issued without probable cause and the good faith exception is inapplicable. We affirm.
FACTS
The Original Search Warrant and Supporting Affidavit
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Detective Eric Ehrhorn applied for a search warrant to search 14 different residences and 13 named gang members from the Tortilla Flats and Gardena 13 street gangs. The warrant sought a search for numerous items, including firearms, ammunition and related items and evidence of street gang membership or affiliation. In addition to the search warrant, Detective Ehrhorn also sought arrest warrants for five Tortilla Flats gang members.
In his more than 50-page supporting affidavit, Detective Ehrhorn, a 15-year peace officer, stated that he had been investigating gang-related crimes in the Los Angeles County area for approximately eight years. At the time he prepared the affidavit, he was assigned as an investigator in the Operation Safe Streets Bureau's Gang Investigative Unit at the Carson Station.
