The trial court sentenced appellant, a convicted sex offender, to a prison term of 25 years to life for failing to register a new address with law enforcement. Appellant contends that the trial court abused its discretion in denying motion to dismiss strike prior convictions and that his sentence was cruel and unusual punishment. Court affirm.

Appellant contends the judgment is void because he was never properly served with the summons and complaint, and appellant claims there was insufficient evidence presented at the prove-up hearing to support an award of punitive damages. Court conclude the record on appeal does not support the conclusion that appellant was properly served. Without proper service of process, the trial court had no jurisdiction over Appellant and the judgment is void. Accordingly, court reverse the judgment.

Appeal from conviction and sentence following a jury trial for sex offenses against a minor. Appellant contends the trial court erred by admitting his taped confession and by imposing mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. Court affirm in part, reverse in part and remand for the trial court for a determination on discretionary sex offender registration.

After a contested jurisdiction hearing, the juvenile court sustained a Welfare and Institutions Code section 602[1] petition alleging appellant, 16-year-old monor, had committed a misdemeanor battery upon another teenager. Appellant now claims insufficient evidence supports the battery finding. Court affirm.
