On March 12, 2003, defendant Geoffrey Randal Lovell pleaded guilty to felony grand theft from a person. (Pen. Code, § 487, subd. (c); further statutory references are to the Penal Code.) Imposition of sentence was suspended and defendant was placed on formal probation for three years on conditions, among others, that he pay a restitution fine in the amount of $200 (§ 1202.4, subd. (b)), pay victim restitution in the amount of $572.64, obey all laws and enroll in job training as directed.


On October 20, 2003, defendant admitted violating the conditions of his probation by possessing a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine and failing to contact a job training program as directed. Probation was reinstated â€
