P. v. Jones CA4/1
A jury convicted Chellyn Jones of multiple counts of insurance fraud (Ins. Code, § 1871.4, subd. (a)(1); counts 3-8, 11-20) and grand theft (Pen. Code, § 487, subd. (a); count 21). Jones waived a jury trial and admitted she had served three prior prison terms (Pen. Code, §§ 667.5, subd. (b), 668) and suffered a prior strike conviction (Pen. Code, §§ 667, subds. (b)-(i), 1170.12 and 668). She thereafter pleaded guilty to failing to appear at her sentencing hearing (Pen. Code, § 1320, subd. (b)), and admitted an allegation that she had committed the crime while out on bail (Pen. Code, § 12022.1, subd. (b)). On Jones's motion (People v. Superior Court (Romero) (1996) 13 Cal.4th 497), the trial court struck her strike prior conviction. It exercised its discretion to also strike her prior prison terms and the on-bail enhancement.
